Thyroid Function - Diagnosis and Monitoring
Evaluate your thyroid gland's function by checking your Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) and Free T4 levels for optimal health insights.
This profile assesses your thyroid gland's function, crucial for diagnosing thyroid disorders, which are common yet often difficult to identify without blood tests.
The test measures levels of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) and Free T4 (FT4), providing insight into whether your thyroid is functioning normally. These tests help determine if you have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) or an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), both of which can lead to symptoms like fatigue, mood changes, and weight issues.
Who Should Take This Test and When?
It's advisable to undergo a thyroid blood test if you experience symptoms of hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism:
Signs of Hypothyroidism may include:
- Fatigue
- Dry skin
- Thinning hair
- Weight gain
- Cold intolerance
- Heavy menstrual periods
- Reduced fertility
- Memory loss and poor concentration
- Depression

Older individuals, particularly those over 60, and women are more prone to hyperthyroidism. Additionally, hypothyroidism is more common in older adults, affecting over 13% of women over 60 and many pregnant women.
Certain conditions also increase the likelihood of thyroid problems, warranting regular testing:
- Type 1 Diabetes
- Addison’s Disease
- Coeliac Disease
- Those on medications like Lithium or Amiodarone
This test can be performed with either a finger prick sample or a phlebotomy sample at any of our partner locations.
