Menopause Hormones Profile
Confirm menopause with this targeted profile measuring estradiol, luteinizing hormone, testosterone, and follicle-stimulating hormone, plus thyroid-stimulating hormone to rule out thyroid issues.
The Menopause Hormones Profile tests the levels of estradiol, luteinizing hormone, testosterone, and follicle-stimulating hormone to confirm whether you are in menopause. It also includes thyroid-stimulating hormone, as thyroid issues can sometimes mimic menopausal symptoms.
Menopause is a natural process occurring in women typically between ages 45 and 55, during which the ovaries stop producing eggs and hormone levels, particularly estrogen and progesterone, decline. The significant drop in estradiol is primarily responsible for many menopausal symptoms, which may include:
- Hot Flashes: Sudden feelings of heat in the face, neck, and chest, often accompanied by dizziness.
- Mood Changes: Low mood, anxiety, mood swings, and reduced self-esteem.
- Cognitive Issues: Problems with memory or concentration, often referred to as "brain fog."
- Sleep Disturbances: Difficulty sleeping, often due to night sweats, leading to daytime fatigue and irritability.
- Heart Palpitations: Noticeable heartbeats that occur suddenly.
- Headaches and Migraines: Increased severity compared to usual.
- Muscle and Joint Pain: Unexplained aches and discomfort.
- Body Shape Changes: Weight gain and shifts in body composition.
- Skin Changes: Dryness and itchiness of the skin.
- Decreased Sex Drive: Reduced libido and vaginal dryness, which can cause pain or discomfort during intercourse.
- Urinary Issues: Increased susceptibility to recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs).
- Oral Problems: Sensitive teeth, painful gums, and other mouth issues.
- Irregular Periods: Heavier periods that may become irregular before stopping altogether.
Fortunately, Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can alleviate many of these symptoms, and it's advisable to consult a doctor about potential treatment options.
This test can be performed using either a finger-prick home sample or a phlebotomy sample collected at one of our partner locations.
